Pipestone is a type of red, malleable rock used by Native Americans for pipes and fetish. To a Zuni, a snake represents primitive energy, symbolizing life, death, and rebirth, also associated with lightning. Jose Espino used this lovely pipestone to carve a curvy snake, showing curves, rattle, and inlaid turquoise eyes. This fetish measures 4 1/4" long, 7/8" wide, and is 3/8" thick. It has the artist's signature and 'Zuni' carved on the bottom side.
